# Use MCP visibility tools

> Tools Claude uses to find your websites, run visibility checks on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and read how AI mentions, cites and ranks your brand.

Ask Claude about your AI visibility and Erlin pulls the data. These tools find your websites, run visibility checks on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and read the results: your dashboard, each prompt's results and the exact AI answers. **Read** tools return data; **Write** tools change something or start work.

## Resolve the website and collection

| Tool | Access | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| `erlin_list_websites` | Read | List every website in your Erlin account, with its URL and ID |
| `erlin_get_brand_info` | Read | Read what Erlin knows about the brand behind one of your websites |
| `erlin_list_collections` | Read | List the collections for a website, and which one is the default |
| `erlin_get_collection` | Read | Read one collection's name and the brand and domain it tracks |
| `erlin_get_collection_metrics` | Read | Show each collection's AI visibility over a time range (default 7 days, up to 90) |

Claude uses the IDs these tools return for later calls. A website and a collection have different IDs: every website has a default collection that holds all its prompts.

## Read existing evidence

| Tool | Access | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| `erlin_get_dashboard` | Read | The full dashboard for a collection: AI visibility and its trend, mentions, a per-platform breakdown, each prompt, and the top competitors next to the ones you track. You can filter to one platform. |
| `erlin_get_dashboard_summary` | Read | A quick overview: AI visibility and its trend, citation rate, share of voice and AI responses captured |
| `erlin_get_prompt_detail` | Read | One prompt's AI visibility, how each platform treated your brand, a leaderboard and the trend |
| `erlin_list_snapshots` | Read | The most recent captured answers for a prompt, up to 20 |
| `erlin_get_snapshot_detail` | Read | One full captured answer: the exact text, whether your brand was mentioned, the URLs cited and the competitors named |

The dashboard and prompt tools cover a time range you choose (default 7 days, up to 90). For a concrete review, ask Claude to read the summary, pick a prompt and open one of its answers. If there is no data for the period, Erlin says so.

## Start and monitor a check

| Tool | Access | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| `erlin_check_visibility` | Write | Run a visibility check for one tracked prompt on the platforms you choose |
| `erlin_bulk_check_visibility` | Write | Run checks for up to 100 tracked prompts at once |
| `erlin_get_check_status` | Read | Show whether a collection's checks are pending, running, completed or failed |
| `erlin_cancel_check` | Write | Stop a check that is still running |

Checks run on `chatgpt`, `gemini` and `perplexity`, in the background. Each costs 2 credits per platform per prompt, charged when it succeeds. For large batches, Claude tells you the scope before it starts.

## Add a website only when needed

| Tool | Access | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| `erlin_add_website` | Write | Add a website and start analyzing it for brand information, products and customer sentiment |
| `erlin_get_website_status` | Read | Check whether a website analysis has finished |
| `erlin_start_visibility_check` | Write | Start Erlin's analysis of a domain you do not track yet. It does not run any prompts itself. |

The analysis usually finishes within a few minutes. Adding a website costs no credits, but it counts against your plan's website limit. If the website is already in your account, Erlin says so. See [credits and limits](https://www.erlin.ai/docs/mcp/credits-and-limits), and [How Erlin works](https://www.erlin.ai/docs/get-started/how-erlin-works) for how checks collect answers.
